PEX 2016

This post is WAY late in coming. Pick your poison as to why, but lets just say life got away from me. On to the fun stuff! For the first year since we’ve been performing with the show, Lux Arati got to open the Russian Roulette Variety Show. It was fantastic not to have to wait the whole time to perform and be able to enjoy the rest of the acts. We had a great time, and can’t wait to put together our next RRVS piece! Fantastic photos thanks to William Tanksley and Redlite. (Raw video of the piece is here.)

Welcome Spring!

It was a rough winter here on the East Coast, but on this beautiful warm day it seems that Spring has finally arrived for good. We’ve been busy bees at our Lux Arati headquarters, scheming and dreaming and working away at new and exciting things for the upcoming summer. New tricks to learn, new props to play with and always more costumes to make! We’re all really excited about what we’ve got in store for the months ahead. Keep an eye on this space and our facebook page for some sneak peaks and updates on where we’ll be performing next.

While I’m pretty sure I’ve posted this before, I figure can’t hurt to share again. For all those out there with nice toasty wicks, here’s a quick way to refresh your props so you’re ready to go this summer. Enjoy, and burn bright!

Lux Arati Promo by Assembly Pix

Last summer a few of us got together with the great folks over at Assembly, an awesome production company based in nearby Manayunk, to shoot a quick scene for a project they were working on. The final project hasn’t come out yet, but they recently put together an awesome little promo for us from the footage we got that night. Take a look! (They wrote about the project on their blog over here.)

Summer season has truly begun.

And let the madness begin! We’ve got quite the summer coming up, and what way to kick it off than a week full of events? Come catch some of the ladies from Lux Arati at two fun (and free!) upcoming gigs:

This ongoing seasonal event series features a variety of dance/movement/theater mediums, live electronic/acoustic music, vocalists & poetry/spoken-word presentations, circus/fire/flow arts performances, community art creations, live painting & VJ projections… Plus an Open Mic/Stage & Jam Sessions!
    • First Friday Grand Opening at Engagement Studios– Please join us for a First Friday event introducing Philadelphia’s newest and most exciting creative startup, featuring live entertainment, drinks, some of Philadelphia’s most popular food trucks and Philadelphia’s own DJ Adub. Planned together with our neighbor, the Painted Bride Art Center, the event will also debut the all-new InLiquid@ENGMT, an art gallery powered by InLiquid, Philadelphia’s premier community of artists. The first installation at Engagement Studios will be previewing the ever-popular InLiquid event, Art for the Cash Poor. More about us at http://www.engmt.com.

Meanwhile we’re hard at work for the piece we’ll be debuting at PEX Summer Fest as part of the Russian Roulette Variety Show. Can’t wait to share it with everyone!

Fun in the Sun

The wonderful Fahrenheit Flow Festival is this weekend. Fahrenheit is a three day camping event where fire performers and flow artists of all types and skill levels come from near and far to share and celebrate their passion for this captivating art form. Many of the Luxie Ladies are involved with the festival, from helping organize to teaching workshops. I’m sure it’ll be a great time for all who are attending!

BUT… for those of you not out camping for the weekend and hanging around Philly, the Luxies who are still in town will be performing at Lucky 13’s yearly block party!

South Philly FestThe event itself should be fun- and it’s free! So come on down to South Philly and hang out with some fun people, drink some beer, eat some food and catch some fire spinning! And cross your fingers that the rain holds off!
