“Parade of Spirits” at iMPeRFeCT Gallery in Germantown

The Krampus fun continues! Some of our ladies will be at the opening of the “Parade of Spirits” group show at iMPeRFeCT Gallery in Germantown on January 18th. We’re aiming to spin some fire around 7pm in the courtyard next to the gallery. If the weather defeated you for Krampuslauf and you missed the event, make sure to swing by and check out the gallery. It’s sure to get you planning for next year!

Here’s the official write-up:

iMPeRFeCT Gallery is proud to exhibit artifacts made by Krampuslauf Philadelphia artists, plus photographs of their procession and its festivities over the last three Decembers — including the enormous glowing goat-bird hybrid harbinger of Death, the Habergei├č, will be exhibited.

This exhibit will run from JAN. 18 to FEB.8, 2014

Since 2011, Krampuslauf Philadelphia — a winter ritual and community procession based loosely on Alpine tradition — is held in Liberty Lands Park in Northern Liberties. In public workshops and in family homes throughout the year, masks, lanterns, noisemakers, puppets and costumes are made for use in this event.

This Opening will include, fire dancers outdoors, and music, so bundle up the family and join us!

There will also be a new installation in the gallery’s Red Room by Baron Roane.

Most Hardcore Show of the Year

Brrrr!!! Krampuslauf Philadelphia this year was smack in the middle of an icy freezing cold snowstorm, but WE PERFORMED ANYWAY, as our official “Most Hardcore” performance of the year. Lux Arati has had our fair share of unfortunate weather during many of our performances — but nothing was quite as intense as this one. Special thanks to Terry Fields for joining us on stage, Amber and Janet for having us and the entire crowd of Krampuslauf Philadelphians that stuck around to watch us do our thing. We love you! Happy Holidays and Burn Bright!

Some great coverage from PHL17 here (taken by Ryan Wismer) and fun photos of the event up on Flickr here. A few borrowed photos from the Krampuslauf Facebook page below.

Here’s another video from the event, from Believe It Tour.

Krampus is coming!!!!

Oh man, are we excited for Krampuslauf! The weather is set to be wintery, but should calm down the time the show goes on.

KRAMPUSLAUF PHILADELPHIA 2013 WILL BEGIN AT 4:30 ON SATURDAY, DECEMBER 14, 2013, AT LIBERTY LANDS PARK (913-961 North 3rd Street.) (Inclement weather date SATURDAY, DECEMBER 21.)

Fire spinning will start as the parade comes back to the park. There are sure to be AMAZING costumes, friendly people and lots of fun. Come join us!!

Krampus 2012

Oh what fun! We were asked to put on a show for the annual Krampus festival in Northern Liberties. I’d heard about the event on NPR last year, so was pretty excited. We couldn’t put on a full Lux Arati show due to a whole bunch of schedule conflicts, but put on a bit of a throw-together display with the help of wonderful Brad.

Brad and Jexi breathing fire

The kids were great and the costumes were amazing. There is a flickr photo pool with some great shots. One of my favorites is this one. That little kid in the bottom right was adorable. Jexi had just done some hooping, and her hoop was lying on the ground next to the stage. I saw the whole thought process as the kid stared at the hoop, inching forward towards it. “Magic came from that… I want to understand how it works!” As the kid leaned down to touch the torch (long cooled, it would have been fine) Jexi pulled the hoop away. Rather than being mad, the kid just looked up slightly disappointed, sad that the chance to touch the magic hoop was taken away. The whole thing was rather adorable.

Krstena’s first show with us!
